So, I have something ridiculously exciting to share with everyone. It's a sort-of-secret project that I've been working on for around four months now, documenting the babywearing community around my city. Going by the name of the Kingston Babywearing Project, I've been partnering with mamas (and papas!) to show them off babywearing different places around our city. So far, we have hit up the farmer's market, toy stores, parks, and today I'm showing off one of the most delicious parts of downtown Kingston -- The Limestone Cupcakery!
I'm hoping with this project I can not only showcase and discover some great parts of our city, but spread the babywearing word around Kingston. We have an amazing babywearing group that is constantly welcoming new members and I can't wait to feature these great mamas around my city!
So without anymore rambling, I'd like to introduce Heather and Blake!
The Limestone City Cupcakery is located in downtown Kingston. After closing shop around a year ago, it's finally back for good, and boy am I thankful. They have amazing flavours and their cupcakes are like clouds. They also have a "Toonie Tuesday" special, where you can get a regular sized cupcake for $2 (how lucky is it that we ended up here on a Tuesday?!).
Those green tea cupcakes were calling my name.
Heather is wearing a Sakura Bloom sling in canyon. She had some great things to say about it! "The first thing that caught my attention about the Sakura Bloom was the stunning color! I love that it's so light and air and required hardly any breaking in (as opposed to my other sling!) It's perfect for the warmer weather and is just a lovely soft linen that makes it perfect for keeping my little one close."
Seriously, how cute is this pair?!
In an effort to get to know the Kingston babywearing community better, I asked Heather a couple of questions about her babywearing experience.
What got you into babywearing, Heather?
Blake did. When he was able to face us in the stroller he loved being in it - being able to see us, look around and be part of our conversation. Then he was too big for that and we had to put him in the forward facing stroller and suddenly he wasn't as a part of things anymore. I started exploring other options as I'd had a Boba wrap when he was young (but I found a little much and very hot last summer). But, we needed an alternative to the stroller and babywearing gives Blake the closeness that he wants (and me too!) and allows me to be hands-free and better able to manage him for longer periods. Because, carrying a squirmy toddler in your arms is not easy.
What do you love about your ringsling compared to your Beco soft structured carrier?
I love the ease of use when it comes to the RS. It's great for quick trips in and out of a store or just around the house when Blake needs extra cuddle time, but I still have things to do (like laundry!). The SSC is great for long walks and longer wearing, but isn't quite as quick to get on and adjusted and seems like overkill when I'm just popping into the store to get some milk. I'm also more apt to leave a RS in the car for "emergency" wearing times.
Thank you Heather and Blake for being our guinea pigs when it comes to getting this project started!
