Day in the Life.

It's easy to get lost in it all. The totally routine yet completely unpredictable days that seem to always be too long and too short at the same time. The days that can drag on and on, though at the end of the day there's always more to do. An ordinary day is cleaning endless messes, kissing endless boo-boos. fulfilling endless needs.

An ordinary day consists of me giving all I can, every bit of myself minute after minute after minute, until those minutes add up into hours and days and weeks of crazy, chaotic, indescribably wild moments.
An ordinary day is about embracing the imperfection and finding magic in those moments.
The moments so sacred and secret that no one else even notices them, where life suddenly seems so spectacular for absolutely no particular reason.
The moments that can be so easily missed unless you surrender to the day and all of the beautiful chaos it brings.
The moments that fill you with unconditional love, make your heart swell, and make you think, "I am so lucky they are mine." Moments like his first smiles. Watching her eyelashes flutter as she drifts off to sleep.  Pulling a blanket over him as he shudders with a happy sigh
How she waits at the window for daddy to come home.  Her ceaseless imagination. His smiles at 2 a.m. when he wakes up in my arms. Her contagious giggles.
The playing that makes the endless messes.
Fulfilling their endless needs.
The wild running, dancing, jumping girl and her endless boo-boos.
These moments are reserved only for those that have spent dusk until dawn rocking a sick child, those who have put any one dream on hold, those who add up all the small, magical moments and see what a wild, crazy, beautiful life we have. We are a brave, loving and giving group, us mothers, and no one can quite experience these imperfectly perfect moments like we can.

An ordinary day is always extraordinary in our eyes.

Sakura Bloom 'Classic' Ring Sling Review

It's always pretty exciting when a brand you love and trust comes out with something new (or new-ish by now, since I did originally start this post less than weeks after they came out!). As beautiful as the new Fall color releases from Sakura Bloom are, I was even more excited when the announced that they were changing from Irish linen to a stronger Belgian linen that was supposed to be even more supportive than their former slings. I absolutely love my single layer Pure slings from Sakura Bloom so I wanted to see what these new Classic slings were all about. Being pregnant with a growing toddler, my Pure sling just hasn't been cutting it for long time use lately and although a silk sling was on the way, we babywear so much in our daily lives that even a few days without some proper support was a pain (mostly in the back, but some in the hips too!). So I was super excited to get my hands on a Classic sling for a few days while my silk made it's way here to us.

Kingston Babywearing Project -- Alicia & Agnes

I recently got together with this beautiful pair, Alicia and her daughter Agnes, for the Kingston Babywearing Project! The two accompanied me through City Park, which is a beautiful and bright oasis of trees and gardens right in the middle of downtown Kingston. The park is full of playgrounds, splash pads, beautiful historic statues and amazing festivals. It's definitely a staple place to visit every season in Kingston, and I was so happy to finally do a shoot there!

Courage

Perhaps strength doesn’t reside in having never been broken, but in the courage required to grow strong in the broken places.”

Kingston Babywearing Project -- Marissa & Casper

As the weather gets more and more beautiful, I'll be posting a lot more of the Kingston Babywearing Project! I already have so many mamas lined up for the next few weeks who are interested in having their portraits taken for the project and I'm so excited that this project is blowing up! Our babywearing group is constantly growing and I can't wait to meet some more babywearing parents!

The other day I met up with one of my favourite mamas and a personal friend of mine, Marissa, and her son Casper bright and early to snap some photos by the famous Kingston waterfront.

Sakura Bloom Linen Ring Sling Review: An Update!

It's been over ten months since our Sakura Bloom purchase, and Emmy has grown just a liiiittle bit (like, you know, 15 pounds) since then! I figured it may be about time to update my review on our ring sling. While my first Sakura Bloom review is still completely true, it was written just days after our first purchase. Now that we've moved into toddlerwearing, I feel like I have so much more experience about what works and what doesn't, especially if you're looking for a carrier that you'll continue reaching for time and time again.

(Pssst! Did you know that Sakura Bloom has changed the kind of fabric they use now?? Check out my review on their new Classic slings here!)

Kingston Babywearing Project -- Sarah & George

I had almost forgotten about these absolutely beautiful photos I took of Sarah and baby George what seems like forever ago! Considering everything outside is covered in layers of snow and ice, these photos were such a breath of fresh air to look through again.

These photos are part of my Kingston Babywearing Project series that documents babywearing mamas in our beautiful city.

Kingston Babywearing Project -- Kimberly & Ben

Recently I got together with this mama for another Kingston Babywearing Project shoot. Kimberly is a beautiful, hilarious and awesome lady who has four kiddos; ages 5 months, 4 years, 7 years and 14 years! It amazes me how put together and sane she is -- to say she is an absolute inspiration would probably be the understatement of the year.

We decided to visit the Memorial Arch at the Royal Military College of Canada for photos. We discovered a beautiful path lined with trees turning beautiful fall colours, and not to mention an amazing sunset that made me fall in love with our city all over again.

Happy Halloween from Little Red and the Big Bad Wolf!

Honestly, we took these photos this morning as Halloween was way too rainy and dark! It was a grey, windy day that seemed perfect for Halloween but definitely not great for the trick-or-treaters. We stayed inside with family and handed out candy. Later on, M and I watched the latest episode of American Horror Story (this season trumps last season already!). It's gorgeous out today, but Emmy has a bit of a cold and is hitting her 9 month growth spurt a bit early, so I think we're just going to stay inside and plan our costumes for next year...!

We visited the Florida Aquarium today! Located in downtown Tampa, the aquarium features and focuses on the animals and marine life found in Florida wetlands and oceans. They also throw some penguins in there for good measure.
