I find that social media causes me to glamorize day to day life more than I should.
By the end of a very normal day, I've eaten a handful of Cheerios for lunch and I'm wearing yoga pants that are covered in baby snot. I don't always have time to make cute seasonal crafts or organize my daughter's lunch into the shape of a cartoon character.. I especially don't have the time to put on makeup or even wash my hair. There's usually always a pile of folded laundry to be put away, I never make the bed and I can never seem to keep the sink free of dishes. I'd like to say "that's just the life of a mom" but who am I to say! This is me. This is my life.
Sometimes going through the pages of moms and blogs I follow who seemingly have perfect homes being filled with a perfect family can be daunting. They always look flawless, their children are never messy and their home looks like something from the Pottery Barn catalog. I have to remind myself that they are only sharing parts of their lives with the world, that we can never know any stranger on the internet completely, and maybe at the end of the day they're as snot covered as I am.
The times I enjoy most with my family are the ones where we are being completely true to ourselves, hanging out in bed at 11 AM on a Saturday morning in our nerdy PJs. No makeup, messy hair, a baby on the verge of toddlerhood who can't sit still for anything. Breakfast was leftover Chinese food, and yup, we ate it in bed. I love every moment I share with my family and every moment of motherhood. I am so completely lucky to be this little bird's mother, and I want to share every moment of it with the world.
