Kingston Babywearing Project -- Sarah & George

I had almost forgotten about these absolutely beautiful photos I took of Sarah and baby George what seems like forever ago! Considering everything outside is covered in layers of snow and ice, these photos were such a breath of fresh air to look through again.

These photos are part of my Kingston Babywearing Project series that documents babywearing mamas in our beautiful city.

What kind of wrap are you using?
I was using a Girasol Amitola Creme Weft size 6. Bought it off the swap from a lovely mama in the states so it was buttery soft and filled with sleepy dust - G fell asleep in it 30 minutes after it arrived for 4 hours!

When you were pregnant, did you plan on wearing George?
When I was pregnant I knew I was going to be wearing G. I had stashed a Beco Gemini, a ring sling and a Moby wrap before he even arrived!

What got you into babywearing?
I got into babywearing when introduced to it by a family I was working with as a nanny just after moving to Kingston. They used a Beco Gemini (which is my favourite of the structured soft carriers) for their little one.  From there I joined the Kingston Babywearing Group online and that was it - a journey down the 'rabbit hole' into the babywearing world! I then became slightly obsessed.

If someone is thinking of babywearing, what advice would you give them?
If someone was thinking of babywearing (and I encourage EVERYONE to try it), I would tell them to 1. Don't be intimidated. People all over the world have wrapped their babies for thousands of years! 2. Find and try out a bunch of different carriers - we have the Kingston Babywearing group lending library! Some end up loving SSC's but hate wraps, some love Ring Slings. You have to see what works for you and your little one. 3. Find other babywearers and try it all out! Get advice on fit, positioning etc. Ask for help! Borrow a wrap. There is a whole community of support if you seek it out :) Facebook is a wonderful resource, as is youtube for help if you decide you want to do it on your own. Just make sure you do your research- not all carriers/wraps are created equal!
